Free Hugs

Be sure to watch the video at the end of this story.

"Do you want a hug?" The young man asked Ginny. He held a sign in his hand, "Free Hugs.” I looked around. There were other people with him. They held their hand-made signs high. The message was the same on all of them – "Free Hugs!"

"Do you want a free hug?" The young man asked Ginny again.

"Sure!" Ginny smiled and walked up to him. She reached up, wrapped her arms around his neck, pulled him down to her level, and hugged him with all the love she had in her heart.

They parted. "WOW!" He exclaimed. "That was the best hug I've had all day!"

"I'm a hugger." Ginny smiled at him.

He looked at me. "How about a hug?"

"You got it!" I walked into his open arms. We held briefly and parted.

A young lady walked up and hugged Ginny. She turned to me, opened her arms, and hugged me too.

Ginny and I stepped back and watched the "Free Huggers" work their magic with those who accepted them. They offered hugs to anyone and everyone.

#############

Juan Mann (One Man) returned to Sydney, Australia in 2004, after living in Europe for several years. He was depressed over his parent's divorce. Most of his friends had moved on. It was just him. He sat for months. Alone and depressed, Juan Mann decided to make a difference and reach out. He made a sign that read, "Free Hugs" and stood at the Pitt Street Mall – one of the busiest streets in the center of Sydney. He put his arms around anyone who accepted his offer.

At first, he left his wallet at home, had a friend watch over him, and expected to be ridiculed. After fifteen minutes, a woman approached him. "My dog died today." She said. "It's also the first anniversary of my only daughter's death. I could use a hug."

Juan was quoted as saying, "That first woman, it was more than a hug; it meant something to her."

People joined Mann. They opened their arms to others. His message spread across the city. Afraid of lawsuits, officials banned "Free Hugs". The people revolted. More than 10,000 people signed a petition to allow him to continue his mission.

Shimon Moore, the lead singer of "The Sick Puppies" happened to see Juan. They hugged and became friends. Moore borrowed a video camera and filmed Juan giving hugs. When Mann's grandmother died, Moore put the video together with his band's song called, "All The Same" and posted the video on "YouTube" with the following caption:

“Sometimes, a hug is all we need. Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, a man whose sole purpose mission was to reach out and hug a stranger, to brighten up their lives."

The video was a hit. It spread around the world. Juan has appeared on Oprah and several other major television shows. His idea continues to gain support and grow.

After his first day on Pitt Street, Juan wondered if others were doing the same. He found Amma – The Hugging Saint of India, Jason Hunter in Atlanta, Georgia, and Jayson Littman in New York.

Jayson started his hugging campaign the same year as Juan. They both felt a need to reach out to humanity. A financial analyst in Manhattan, Jayson believed New Yorkers could use a hug. From 2004 through to 2006, he spent one weekend afternoon a month holding his "Free Hugs" sign in his hands and opened his arms to anyone who needed human comfort.

Since then, Jayson's mission has been taken over by others who believe – hugs for all. On the last Saturday afternoon of the month, you'll find them gathered in Union Square in Lower Manhattan. They hold their signs high and offer their open arms to all who need a human touch.

#############

The huggers worked the crowd. Most people ignored them or shook their heads to indicate they were not interested. Those who opened their arms in return, walked away with a smile on their face.

I felt a warmth – a glow – fill my heart. Ginny and I were going through rough times. Money was scarce, bill collectors called on a regular basis. We were stressed and worried, but on that afternoon, for a brief moment, it was all forgotten. It took a simple hug to make everything better.

Dear Jana: My Limu Plus Testimonial

My name is Jason Mallo and I have a testimonial for Limu Plus. I have had back problems all my life growing up. Years of getting my back checked by the school nurse and nothing done. Later in my working years, I couldn't handle the constant back aches everyday so I convinced myself to get enough courage up to see the doctor about it.

In early 2002, I was diagnosed with severe Scoliosis. At the time I was an avid competition archer winning many tournaments and being runner up to the state champion. In 2003, I was awarded the best archer in Iowa in my division. Late 2004, I could hardly shoot my bow. I was on numerous pain medicine, anti inflammatory medicine, and other medicine just to do my daily activities.

Nothing ever seemed to work for me always having the chronic lower back ache waking up with back cramps and restless nights in bed. My doctor suggested getting a tempur pedic bed, so I went out and spent $4000 on a new bed. Wow that was great, I slept better but my pain and cramps never went away.

In 2005, I stopped shooting all together and playing golf, and work has become a struggle anymore. I have lived on muscle relaxers and pain medicine for 2 years and now the doctor is saying the medicine won't do me any good anymore like it ever did anyway. In late 2007, my good friend Ernie Pinard introduced me to Vitamark and said that they have a product that may help with my pain in my back and that was Limu Plus. The GREEN that I am, I read over all the information and re-read it, and finally I made my mind up and I joined Vitamark in January 2008.

Still leery of the Limu Plus, I started with the Crave and loved the energy and weight loss I got from that. Next, Ernie was telling me: "Jason, next Autoship you should get some Limu Plus, you won't be disappointed." So I gave it a try last month I ordered my Limu and gave it a try. Now its been 3 weeks, and every morning I wake up, I have no back ache, no cramps at night, and I am finally sleeping through the night again.

On March 11th, I had an appointment with my back specialist and he asked what I have been taking for my pain and I told him my discovery of Limu, he was very interested and asked for more information. Now that I have discovered Limu I am getting back into my archery and this spring will be golf. Thanks, Ernie Pinard, Vitamark, and Limu. I am a true believer that this product works for me and helps me with my daily activities!

Thanks,
Jason Mallo

"BE The Difference Club"

I'm sure you've heard of Caltech (California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California) which is one of the world's premier research institutions. It was started as Throop Polytechnic in 1903 by astronomer George Ellery Hale who had the vision of creating a first-class "college of technology and science." First he recruited chemist, Arthur Amos Noyes from MIT and then physicist Robert Andrew Millikan from the University of Chicago. Even with these deep thinkers and the caliber of people they've since attracted, don't think for a moment it is a place without humor. The three, astronomer, physicist and chemist were dubbed "Tinker, Thinker and Stinker."

If you don't know about Caltech, I'm sure you've heard of some former "Techers" who have made their mark on the world -- or at very least you've used their inventions without knowing it: Frank Capra (film director - It's A Wonderful Life), Chester F. Carlson (inventor of photocopying), Gordon E. Moore (Cofounder of Intel Corp.), Harrison Schmitt (Apollo 17 astronaut and the 12th and last human to have walked on the moon, also a former U.S. senator).

Although much of the talk revolves around quarks and quasars, the students (and faculty) know how to have fun. Caltech is also famous for its annual Senior Ditch Day where the Seniors secure their rooms with complex codes that Freshmen, Sophomore and Juniors try to unravel. Once the code has been broken, the successful underclassman finds a bribe within the room (usually a feast of some kind) in hopes that the room won't be trashed (or pranked). Sometimes the bribes are taken - sometimes not. One year the Senior returned to his room to find all his furniture bolted to the ceiling.

Even the professors get in on the fun. One year the late Richard Feynman (a Nobel Prize winner) offered $1000 to any student who could build an electric motor 1/64th of an inch on each side. The challenge was met -- the working motor was the size of a grain of sand -- about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. It is on display at Caltech's Eastbridge Building and a notice reads: THIS MOTOR IS WORN OUT AND NO LONGER RUNS.

I can't even imagine a motor this size: . Isn't it exciting that we have minds that not only imagine such things but actually create them?! It blows my mind!

But certifiable geniuses are not immune from the same feelings, pressures and fears that you and I experience. When all is said and done, knowledge cannot heal a crushed heart or repair a broken relationship. It is kindness and respect that build bridges of understanding and tolerance. No amount of mathematical or logical prowess can do that.

Each of us has the same genius for making the world a better place -- it's called reaching out and helping someone without expecting anything in return. It's all a matter of seeing and treating people the way you want them to see and treat you. It's that simple. It's that world-changing! It's that dynamic. And it's guaranteed to change your life and those around you.

Profile of the Week

Francine's mother was a herpetologist and taught at the local community college. Her father, a veterinarian specializing in reptiles, was in charge of the Reptile House at the local zoo. So it was no surprise to the family that Francine became enamored with snakes at an early age.

She smiled at the thought that most people shrink from snakes, but she couldn't get enough of them. Francine loved making the zoo rounds with her dad. The Reptile House was her "home away from home" and where she could be found after school and on the weekends.

It wasn't uncommon for her to have snakes wrapped around each arm while her dad examined them. And she was the one he usually called for help when a snake escaped its cage because she was quick and fearless. He had taught her early how to catch a snake by holding the tip of its tail until it calmed down.

Francine smiled as she remembered how the boys at school were attracted to her and the girls were repulsed by her. She knew it was their ignorance of snakes that made them that way.

Francine couldn't remember the exact moment she knew she would follow in her father's footsteps - she was always "the snake girl."

Her most difficult years were college - not because of the course work - it was easy enough. It was difficult because she was so far from the zoo and her dad's practice. She contacted the local rescue shelter to see if they needed help with reptiles or snakes. She chuckled to herself as she remembered how they'd asked her to come in that day!

Now here she was the head herpetologist at her "home" zoo. Her folks are retired now but show up every now and then to help. It's great to see them handling the snakes and letting the visiting children touch and hold them. Their's is a different kind of "petting zoo" -- the best way to experience there is little to fear and much to learn.

Life has come full circle, and Francine couldn't be happier.

Last week's brainteaser: How can two people step on one page of newspaper so that they can't touch each other without stepping off the newspaper? Answer: Place the newspaper page under a closed door. Each person steps on one end of the page so that they cannot touch each other without opening the door. To open the door, they would have to step off the paper.

Tips & Tricks

Coins, Tires & Cut Flowers

Use a penny to tell you if it's time to replace the tires on your car. Insert a U.S. penny into the tread. If you can't cover the top of Abe Lincoln's head inside the tread, it's time to replace the tire. And to keep cut flowers fresh longer, put a copper penny and a cube of sugar into the vase water.

Direct-sales businesses boom as economy tightens

ALEXIA FODERE/ FOR THE MIAMI HERALD

Carmen Rojas, who hosted a Passion Party at her home, shows an octopus toy used to give massages.

* Is direct sales for you?

It's Saturday night and a dozen women are in Carmen Rojas' living room, passing around edible lotions, flavored body powders and adult toys. For Rojas of Miami, this night is about more than getting these women to buy her products.

By the party's end, Rojas' guests have spent more than $300, and she will pocket 40 percent of the sales. More importantly, she has ensured future income by inspiring at least one to host a party.

Direct selling has become a money-making option more people are considering to cover rising gas costs, be their own bosses and better balance the responsibilities of career and family. There are tons of direct sales companies to choose from such as kitchenware, fashion, jewelry, tools, cosmetics. The goal with direct selling is to ramp up your earnings by recruiting enough people under your network so that your income benefits from their sales, too.

More than 15 million people worked as direct sales consultants in 2007, generating more than $30 billion in sales, according to the Direct Selling Association, which insists: ``We're in the middle of a boom in home-based businesses.''

''There are so many more reasons today that people are going into direct sales,'' says Amy Robinson, spokeswoman for the Direct Selling Association. They are looking for income while searching for permanent jobs, their salaries no longer cover costs, or they might be stay-at-home parents who view it as a flexible way to supplement household income, she says.

Just three months ago, Rojas was working in a bank. After her position was eliminated, she figured she would give direct selling a try adding, ``I never really liked the 9 to 5 thing.''

Direct sales, also know as network, multilevel or referral marketing compensates those who use and enthusiastically recommend their products or services. The ease of entry makes it accessible for people of all walks of life with a gamut of motivations.

In the past few months, I have been approached about a half dozen times by mom friends and acquaintances about direct selling opportunities. A single mom friend who owns a food business and does direct sales on the side, wants me to consider a new multi-level online shopping portal. ''I'm not telling you to leave your regular job,'' she insists. ``But it's a great way to earn extra income.''

A word of caution: you must be comfortable pitching products to family and friends and recruiting others as hosts and consultants; you will need to work hard to earn money (these are not get-rich-quick businesses); you must be prepared to pay start-up costs and you will not get benefits such as health insurance.

Of course, unlimited earning potential and working on your own schedule attracts many direct sellers, particularly in today's economic environment. Only 10 percent of people who work as consultants do it full time. Most work less than 10 hours a week and earn a median income of $2,400 a year: ''there's the flexibility people are looking for,'' Robinson says.

Bonnie Ross, a stay-at-home mother for eight years, wanted to find a job that would bring her family some income but still allow her to be there for homework, play dates and dinner. About 10 months ago, she fell in love with sterling jewelry and signed up to sell Silpada Designs. ``Silver catches people's attention . . . it jiggles and shines so it's like I'm a walking advertisement.''

Ross laid out an $1,750 in start-up costs. She now manages four women and earns commission off her own sales and theirs. She says it took about eight parties to recoup her initial outlay and she now earns anywhere from $200 to $600 a week hosting parties on nights and weekends. Ross' advice: Set goals. Hers is to double her business next month.

Others find direct selling works with their lifestyle.

Marcell Buckner, 62, started selling Pharmanex, skincare and anti-aging products, four years ago. He put in about 10-hours a week while running two businesses -- an insurance agency and as a third-party administrator. Now, he is counting on income from direct sales to take him into a ``new era of life.''

He now hopes to sell his businesses and devote his full attention to selling the products, working on his own schedule during his senior years. ``This is the right thing for me at the right time. I am looking to transition.''

One veteran direct seller cautions anyone considering direct sales to ease into it as a full-time job.

Eighteen years ago, Paula Ehrlich began selling Nu Skin products on her lunch hour. Four years later, she and her husband Morton quit their corporate jobs to sell the products and grow the business full time. The Miami couple now manages more than 20,000 sales consultants in 40 countries. They encourage everyone they recruit to think hard about why they want to be in the business and whether they can handle rejection. ''Not everyone is successful,'' Paula acknowledges. ``Don't sell anything you don't believe in.''

What makes an MLM leader different?

How do you put into words exactly what makes leaders different? Can you possibly predict who will rise from follower status to becoming a recognized leader and someone who is widely accepted as a guru? Probably a lot of people figure that when you look at a leader, you see certainty and passion and enthusiasm. So long as you see those things, a person inspires confidence in others. It's not real scientific, but I'll bet you've noticed the same thing in your life. That person with a high level of confidence is easy to follow. The person without it? You hardly even notice them.

What this means is, to be a leader, you need to be certain that the actions you take make a difference. It really doesn't matter so much how you do it, so long as you do it with passion. There's an old saying, "I may not be right, but I'm never in doubt." THAT is a person who can be an inspiring leader. Anyone with a burning desire to be successful will stay away from people in doubt. In order to bring the right people into your MLM business, you need to act with certainty. When you do that, you are irresistible.

It's always surprising how many people look to others to guide them when, if they just Googled their question, theyíd have an answer. True leaders don't wait for others to make a move to do it for them. They choose a good example, then they figure it out and make it work. A leader entering unknown territory still doesn't bat an eye. They do it anyway. This isn't revolutionary. Every one of us learns to drive by driving. Being a leader is all about having a "think REALLY big" mindset, and then doing the necessary actions. A leader absolutely knows that they are the ONLY one responsible for their future, so they do the logical actions that will bring the results they want.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM! WILL YOU QUALIFY FOR THE MOST EXCLUSIVE, INTENSE TRAINING OF PERSONALITY TYPES

This is super training and development stuff for serious guys and girls only..because..It will take you deeper into the color to success than ever dreamed possible! Nail your prospect's sweet spot. learn the personality types.
Good news Before learning the personality types, I had a difficult time talking to prospesct. I know of no other subject that when used correctly can have such a positive inpact on how to talk to prospects.
Network marketing can be frustrating without training and development. Sometimes I felt no control. But when you build relationships, it changes. You can succeed with any network marketing company.
BUT THAT'S JUST PART OF THE STORY..
See what Laura Lewandowski has to say about learning about personality types:
Michael Dlough training and development helps with personal relationships. Color To Success is incredible. I learned Myers-Brigg personality-typing in school and all through my career. You learn about personality traits, your best career choice, and how to relate to people. But it was confusing. Michael's training gives you step-by-step how to relate to people. It changed my relationship with my husband. We laugh now, but we had issues. He's so Green. I'm so Blue. When we realized it's just our personalities, the tension melted.
What kind of price tag can you put on THAT? It's about becoming a better person and developing as a leader. Some people think leaders are just for business or industry. But a leader attracts people. To do that, you have to walk in their shoes, understand them. Color To Success helps a lot. It's a good foundation.
You learn how other people perceive what you say, and how you should talk to them, based on their personality. I've always asked a lot of questions. But it wasn't until the Colors training that I started to ask the RIGHT questions to understand them as a person.
So now, I LOVE to listen to see what I can find out about them, what's important to them. I'm WAY different than when I first met Michael."

Laura Lewandowski Missourget

Even better

The biggest change in Network Marketing is this: to spot these personalities, you must LISTEN to people! And wonderful things seem to happen when you acturally listen. When you listen to people and truly understand their personality, one has the ability to help inspire them to greatness. This is done though training and development.
The rewards for the ones who have learned the personality types have been more than financial. The biggest reward for me was learning that network marketing is not a sales business. It is a teaching & mentoring business.

Think about it

With a unique and insightful style, Michael Dlough identifies four primary personality profiles using colors to describe them. Go ahead, take the test, and discover your true color, find out what makes you (and others) tick. Gain insight into your own primary motivations, identify and develop your natural strengths and transform your weaknesses, improve your relationships with yourself and with others, read other people more easily and accurately, and enhance your business performance. The Color to success will, quite simply, with training and development make a difference.

Happiness

Happiness seems to be elusive for some people. I've come to realize that happiness is not something to be achieved, but rather a result of right living. This was confirmed when I came across a list of someone's five steps to happiness.

1) Free your heart from hatred. Forgive. I've found that the tighter I hold onto grudges or recycle past hurts, the more miserable I become. But when I can let go and forgive, I choose the freedom of forgiveness over the bondage of feeling sorry for myself. My attitude changes and life becomes much easier and far more pleasant.

2) Free your mind from worries; most never happen anyway. Spend your time on accomplishing the tasks for today and not constantly fretting about the "what ifs." You can't do anything about your worries, and they rob you of precious time and energy, not to mention your peace of mind.

3) Live simply and appreciate what you have. Enjoy your family, classmates and colleagues. Go out on a cloudless night and take in the starry sky. I tried to teach my kids the difference between wanting something and needing something. I've found that 95% of what I think I need is totally unnecessary. I don't miss not having it - I just THINK I need it. It's almost a compulsion with society today because of the commercials and ads that constantly bombard us.

4) Give more. There is a universal law that the more you give, the more you receive. What you receive isn't always exactly what you gave - it may take many different forms. And you are never asked to give what you don't have - only what you do. Hoarding or hanging on to things (i.e. money, possessions, etc.) doesn't make you happy. It actually does the opposite because soon your possessions possess you instead of the other way around. It's been said that money makes a great servant but a terrible master.

5) Expect less. We have such unrealistic expectations about things and people. Things can never make us happy - they lose their shine and appeal quickly. Built-in obsolescence means we "need" the next upgrade, the next model, the next new style. It's unending - and causes us to feel dissatisfied with what we have. Again, I believe much of our unrealistic expectations are due to the TV shows and movies we watch. Life is romanticized on "the big screen" and is, more often than not, totally unrealistic. If you learn to expect less (or even better, if you put NO expectations on others), everything that comes your way becomes a blessing.

These five steps to happiness really work. They definitely take an attitude adjustment! And they take some effort. But if you practice them, I believe your happiness quotient will sky rocket and so will your inner peace. I also believe these are major steps toward wisdom and maturity.

Make it a great year!

Sandi Valentine

Shopping Testimony

New TV is a Win-Win!

"We got a fantastic buy on a Vizio HDTV from TigerDirect. TigerDirect offers 1.4% commission. We ordered it on Friday, March 7 and received it via UPS yesterday (Monday). We have been shopping for one since our old tube TV lost 'red' and we have some very interesting TV viewing (food looked very unappetizing). The new TV is a 1080p, 42-inch that we watch a movie on last night. It's so great to know we are actually earning on our online purchases through My Power Mall."

What Difference Can I Make?

Don't think because you're only one person you can't make a difference! You can. . .

. . . provide some cheer to sick kids. Do you have a hospital nearby? Maybe even a dialysis center? Often these rooms are a little drab and could use some cheering up. Contact the Pediatrics ward, Oncology (cancer) ward, labs, dialysis center and tell them you'd like to help cheer up their rooms. You can provide cheerful, colorful artwork, DVD movies (you may also need to provide a DVD player), and little care packages. Kids (and probably adults, too) really like the sour Skittles to help with the nasty taste of chemotherapy. (Idea taken from our fr*ee E-book, 101 Ways Youth Can Change The World.

Little things make BIG differences!

Profile of the Week

Luke remembers his tour of duty overseas as if it were yesterday - lonely, scared, far away from home among strangers.

He'd been one of the lucky ones; his family had sent him letters and packages regularly. He can still see the envy and longing on the face of his best buddy, Ray. Ray's family was very sporadic about writing and never sent a package, so Luke always shared his goodies with him. Ray's young face seemed to lighten up and some of his tension melt away whenever he got to eat some of Luke's mom's chocolate chip cookies or read the newest best selling book.

Those simple packages from home helped raise their morale better than anything else could.

The packages were also the inspiration for what Luke is doing now and has done for over a dozen years - collecting enough supplies and goodies to send packages to as many troops overseas as possible.

Walking along the aisles of the warehouse, Luke is overwhelmed at the generosity of donors. When Christmas nears, there is always an abundance of supplies to make the holidays special for our troops. As Luke makes his way down the aisle he hears the laughter among volunteers sorting items to be used for making individual Christmas packages. It touches and lightens his heart when he sees people enjoying this huge task. He could never do all he wanted to help the troops without the help of these exceptional volunteers. "Without them," he thinks to himself, "this project would be dead in the water."

Whistling an early Christmas carol, Luke continues his amble down the aisle. Once again he's reminded why he started this special project for the troops. Just so they could have a holiday knowing they weren't forgotten and their efforts weren't in vain. Just so they wouldn't feel as lonely and afraid as Ray had. Just to say, "Thank you for protecting my family and me while you are so very far away from your own family."

Just For Fun

This week's brainteaser: A clock gains half a minute every day. Another clock doesn't work. Which one will show the correct time more often?

Tips & Tricks

Cornstarch, Dry Shampoo & Tangled Knots

If your dog needs a bath and you don't have the time (or the weather isn't cooperating), try rubbing cornstarch into her coat and then brush it out. This will fluff up doggie's coat until it's "real bath" time. Got stubborn knots in your shoelaces or string? You can work the tangles out more easily by sprinkling cornstarch on the knot.

GOOD NEWS ABOUT MENTORING FOR FREE FROM

Bodil Toennevold.
I`m living in Norway, but yet running a home based business together with Rex and some other peoples from different countries in the world.
I have been interested in the Network Marketing industry for some years now.
The first years I failed many times. But even I failed I believed that there had to be a way to build a Network Marketing home business with success.
I was searching the inter net, and after many months I got in contact with my Norwegian sponsor and my up liners from US, which had a very good company and business opportunity to offer me. And I did start a business together with them.
I also found the Mentoring for Free Team. They teach me network marketing in a way I never had seen before! A friendly way where I didn't have to sell. I didn't have to ask my friends to join my business either!!
What I later got to know was that Michael Dloughy in Mentoring for Free had learned from the owner of the company I and Rex are working together in how to build a business with the Methodism he teaches people in Mentoring for free!
So I think; Rex and I have found the key to success, I am sure!
We have both a company and a Mentoring Team doing it the same way.

I know Rex want to help you even you do not joining his business opportunity. He is a very friendly and good thinking man. But if you also are looking for a good and honest business opportunity, or have been struggling a long time with that one you are in now, do ask him about what he are doing. I`m sure you will be interested to look closer to it.
